Dates… Dates… Dates… Tomorrow is the end of the world, or not…

Dates… Dates… Dates… Tomorrow is the end of the world, or not…

Tomorrow is the end of the world… or not.
Photo found in an article by the Washington Post, even large secular media is covering this guy.
Harold Camping of Family Radio
says that tomorrow is the end of the world. Using some weird math calculations an one obscure selection scripture ignoring reams of other scripture and higher biblical themes… The man falsely predicted this same event would happen in 1994. However, despite the fact I disagree with his calculations I’m not going to write him off as a total kook…
I believe that there is a desire in each of us to not only know that Jesus will return someday… but as these days get worse and worse and we see the evidence that we are in fact living in the last of the last days… we all want to know WHEN?
I am becoming convinced, albeit not wholly convinced yet, that we are not banned by God from knowing the dates. Whole sections of the Church feel that after reading the English translation of the bible they are 110% sure the bible says you cannot know. I disagree I don’t think that the bible says that. I am however extremely cautious of setting dates as this should not be done lightly. This will require more than one post I am sure.
Today I believe the benefit of the press this false prediction has gotten is that it begs the questions…
If not tomorrow… when?
Can we know?
Should we know?
If we did know… how should we respond? Or should we respond no differently because we live EVERY DAY as though he were coming back in the next minute?

Lessons from Peters Trip to Cornelius

Acts 10

Peter is called to the house of Cornelius a centurion guard who loved God.

2A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God always... 4 ...Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.

The first thing that stands out to me here is that his Prayers and Giving stood out to God. If anything stands out to God I should make a point of making it a focus and major in my life.

15And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

Lord, cleanse me of mindsets that go against your will. How can I come against a person you died to save? How can I not love those you love? Create in me a heart like yours. Your love has been shed abroad in my heart, show me how to let it loose in my life.

45And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.

Yet again, over and over in scripture Tongues is tied to the Holy Spirit. I must spend more time praying, but also spend a more time praying in tongues.

Power to Witness

05.06.2011   Acts 1

" 6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me

The Holy Spirit will come to bring POWER TO WITNESS. The lots cast by Peter regarding the replacement for Judas were the last lots cast to make a decision. The Holy Spirit, not dice, would now move and decide for His Church. It was not until POWER came that Peter became the witness Jesus asked him to become back on that beach in John 21. Truely he was out of line making any decision on a replacement until the Power came.

Power to Witness....
Power to Wintess...
Power to Witness...

This is missing in the church, in my life even to a large extent these days... Power to Witness... Hmm....

Side Note: of all he doesn't say that no one can ever know, He says that it's not for THEM to know. Even earlier in his ministry before the cross he didn't say no one will ever know. He said that no one knows... as in no one right at this moment knows accept the Father.

See: Day or Hour:
Matthew 24:36

“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.
Mark 13:32

“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

I'm Going Fishing!

05.05.2011  John 21

3 Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.”

Fishing was not a hobby or past time for peter. It was like many people today that here in Texas that say they are going fishing and jump into a small boat and cast a line and sit half asleep with a beer and do little to nothing.

Fishing for Peter before he met Jesus was a profession. He owned several boats and servants(Hired Workers) and dropped large nets into the lake to gather many fish and sell them in the market. This was a major deal for Peter. Essentiallly he had denied Jesus at His trial, and now Jesus was raised from the Dead but not around much. The ministry he was serving was now dispersed and what was there to do? Peter decides that he's going to stop pursuing the ministry and the big ideas he thought he had. He's obviously mis understood the intentions of Jesus a few times. He thought there would be a kingdom but there isn't yet. He is confused about the purpose of the life and ministry of Jesus. He knows he died and rose again, but what exactly is the purpose of all this? In the wake of these roller coaster emotions he decides to do the one thing he KNOWS he can do. He's going back to work as a fisherman. Maybe it'll be part time, maybe full time. But he's going back to work. Others decided to come with him.

One of Jesus first encounters with Peter was asking him to throw down his nets (Plural) after a bad day of fishing with no catch. Jesus now 3.5 years later, but not recognized as Jesus just yet from a distance, asks him to do the same. The first time peter threw ONE net out as a "Make the teacher Happy this is a waste of my time" move. The net nearly broke, indicating that he used an old net and didn't really take Jesus word as having much meaning. THIS time he through down his used good nets and brought in over 153 large fish and John recognizing the pattern said, "Woah man! It's Jesus!" Peter took off to see him.

Jesus then uses a Q&A time to restore Peter. Peter denied Jesus three times at His trial. Now Jesus restores Peter with three repetitions of Do you Love me? Peter, repurposed and refocused now turns to the task at hand and returns to the ministry, fully recovered and ready to take his mission with new life and vigor. But He's still lacking one thing... which we see the next...
