Thank God It's Monday!

SO, this will be another shorter post. I started out this weekend with an idea about things I wanted to do. I've pretty much done none of them, except that I'm forcing myself to write this post today, because I said I would. Plans have a funny way of changing on you. Even things you don't like/prefer don't have to be really bad. For example, this Pipe that busted because I chose to dig there without checking. Oops. Now I have a new project to work on this week, or soon-ish.

My wife wanted things done at the house. It was fun. We painted some walls, did the garden. I got bricks from left over construction that were trash bound and re-purposed them as garden edging. Sure, they weren't pretty enough to be used to side a house, some covered in concrete or chipped. But they were just fine for my little garden and brought it up a whole other level. We got wood that we will be using as a make shift patio until we can budget in a more permanent one. We didn't do everything we planned. But we did do things.

A couple we know needed... everything. They were living in a home with just a mattress on the floor. So we brought them a love seat God asked us to sow into their lives, debatably the best piece of furniture in our home. Someone else brought them a refrigerator. Someone else sowed a car into their lives. Things are coming together for them. It was hard for them to see it with all the stuff that was missing, but take a moment to look at what you have. How many people do you know that got a free car, refrigerator, and love seat? As my pastor would say, when you hear about good things happening for others you need to reply "That happens to me ALL THE TIME!"

Thank God for the Good Things! 

So let's reflect on the goodness of God today. I don't have everything I want, need, or desire. My weekend didn't go exactly, or at all, as I envisioned. And thanks to this lovely issue with a pipe bursting out front (because I dug without thinking - Can you say #SelfInflicted) I have more outside work cut out for me soon. But what DO I have?

I have Jesus! If there were nothing else that would be GOOD! I have Flavia A.Wolfe as my wife. She is very creative and wonderful. When I write something, say something, preach something, or share something profound... 9/10 times it came from her. God and Flavia are the substance to my voice, and often God through Flavia. I have two amazing kids! They are bright and funny. They are perfectly healthy. They each have strengths of their own, and God given talents and perspectives. They are His Creations and I am allowed to be steward over them for this limited time. They continue to amaze me.

I have a HOUSE (Owning not Renting!), working towards being a debt free house. I have two DEBT FREE CARS! And my cars are in perfect working order. I have a job, at which I've been for 7+ years. When others have been laid off I've been promoted, time and time again. When I asked God for a second Job, He gave it to me. When I asked Him if He wanted me to have that second Job, found out He did not, but was willing to work with my desire, He delivered me from it and gave me a new, better, strategy.

Conclusion

God is good to us all. If there were nothing else we could be thankful for we could simply say that Jesus paid the price for me to enter Debt Free into heaven. There is no price to pay. It's not necessary or possible, to pay for my sins before entering heavens gates. I can stand before God today, with all my faults, free of "guilt and shame". I am perfect before Him. When He sees me, He doesn't see my weaknesses or shortcoming, He sees Jesus' Righteousness standing before Him. If I were to die today, I would graduating and promoting into a FAR better situation. So death really has no sting for me. It's win-win. If I stay on earth, I work for Him and gain Him more glory. If I depart to Heaven I gain access to a REALLY COOL place!

• Praise is the natural result of thanksgiving... start thanking God today, even if (especially if) you don't feel like it.

Post Hole Faith?

Normally, I'd write a post today. Because I committed to writing one every Monday. However, today it will be a really short one. Today I had to do "Man's Work". The fence fell down. And being responsible home owners we had to fix. Thank our precious Lord it was only one post that had issues. Some of the concrete opened up and allowed dirt in next to the wood. It rotted out the wood. The only thing holding that post in was the fence it was nailed to. It wasn't even pretending to be hooked to the ground anymore.

The other section of post, however, that was a different problem altogether. It was rooted and grounded! There was cement going down another 2-3 feet. In order to pull out the old post I had to break up all the concrete piece by piece. My lovely wife had great ideas to make the job go smoother and focus the work. In the end, after several house of digging and prying it all came out. The new pole went in the established hole. I made the new hole so big I ended up using TWO 80 lbs bags of Quickcrete to fill in around that pole. It's never moving again! LOL

It's now 10:57 PM CT on Monday. The kids went to bed late, the dogs have to go out on leashes because the post is in but it has to dry and set before we can load pressure onto it by putting the fencing back on. The whole project took longer than I thought, and yet it went easier than I thought too, in a sense. Aspects were harder, and easier. It's hard to explain really. In the end that part is done. I'm going to work tomorrow. I'm coming home to complete this project. While that was setting up we've done other things to improve our landscaping too. One project led to another. Who knows, if the fence hadn't fallen down maybe we'd never have gotten to all that other work?

Conclusions?

• Some jobs look harder than they are...
• Projects have a way of expanding on themselves, and that can be a great thing, so take one step and then another...
• It looks hard, it is hard, but it's not THAT bad, just take it moment by moment, stop to breath every once in a while, and then go back at it...
• Maybe I CAN be an outdoors person after all... 
• God created a GREAT planet, I should enjoy it more...

• It's interesting how dirt goes to try and grow whatever it can. It rots out material to make it into soil and uses that soil to grow plants and things we need. 
• Parts of the wood were nearly turned to dirt themselves. 
• It's interesting how that works. Our spirit is that way. It tries to dissolve  absorb, and grow whatever we put into it. What are you putting into your spirit today?

Post Hole Faith?

John 11: Moved By The Holy Spirit

John 11

33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the people who had come with her weeping, he was intensely moved in spirit and greatly distressed. 34 He asked, “Where have you laid him?” They replied, “Lord, come and see.” 35 Jesus wept. 36 Thus the people who had come to mourn said, “Look how much he loved him!” 37 But some of them said, “This is the man who caused the blind man to see! Couldn't he have done something to keep Lazarus from dying?” 38 Jesus, intensely moved again, came to the tomb. (Now it was a cave, and a stone was placed across it.) 39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.

33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping , and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled 

38 Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave *. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.

HEAR:

This word "Groan" has always struck me as odd. It's mentioned twice here. What's very interesting is what it means and where else it's used.

Groan - Embrimaomai
It derives from Brimaomai: "To snort with anger" and it means to charge with earnest admonition, sternly to charge, or threaten to enjoin. 

Blue Letter Bible Lexicon says that it appears in these five verses in the NT:

Mat 9:30	and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, "See that no one knows about this."
Mar 1:43	Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning:
Mar 14:5	It could have been sold for more than a year's wages and the money given to the poor." And they rebuked her harshly.
Jhn 11:33	When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled.
Jhn 11:38	Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance.

I've always had the idea that it just meant Jesus was moved with compassion and sad because His friends were sad. Indeed, that could be true because the bible says that he is our High Priest and he is understanding of our weaknesses, having experienced these intense emotions himself while on earth.

While all of that may be true it's not what the word means. It's the same word used to describe Judas' outburst over this same Mary pouring expensive oil over Jesus. Interesting that this word's use now again involved Mary.

So, Jesus is "mad", so to speak. I read where it's used and what it means and I get the picture of a Parent turning to children who are getting out of line and saying "Stop it!"

But verse 33 also says his spirit was "Troubled" this is the Greek word Tarasso. It means to: "Agitate, cause inward commotion, or to stir up" It's generally used to talk about the person who is agitated by fear and dread. Of course it's impossible for Jesus to be afraid. Perfected Love casts out fear and Jesus IS perfect Love himself.

I feel that this agitation was of the Holy Spirit. He already knew before He ever came that He would be raising Lazarus from the dead. He basically told Martha that when He first Got there. Martha figured Jesus was talking about a far off someday, not here and now.

Jesus also knew that His own time was short, and He would eventually be trading places with Lazarus. Very soon HE would be dying and getting wrapped and put into a tomb and then have to come out of it. This has to be on His mind as He was dealing this hear and now.

I feel that Jesus was moved by all of these things. This agitation of Spirit that caused a stern response was the Holy Spirit in Him moving Him to action. You don't just walk up nonchalantly to a tomb and ask politely: "Please come back from the dead?"

It was the Holy Spirit Himself moving to action within Jesus. This was the Gifts of the Spirit, as laid out in 1 Cor 12, coming to life before our eyes.

I feel like there is a conclusion to this... but I don't know what it is. So I'll let you make it for yourself...

DO:

As for me? I'm going to pay more attention to the leading of the Holy Spirit today in the little things. That way I can be used by Him in the big things.

John 10: Hireling vs Shepherd

COME:

JOHN 10

HEAR:

As a representative of the Body of Christ I walk on this planet as Jesus. I am Jesus to everyone I meet because I bear His Name, His Authority, His Power, His Spirit, His Blood, His Broken Body replaced mine on the cross. So then, if I am to do the works of Jesus and greater works than those, how can I let poor attitudes work in me?

I must prepare myself to treat each and every person like Jesus would treat them, not just as the ones I feel like treating well. The hireling runs from wolves. What does that mean? It means that he doesn't care enough about the sheep to protect them and die to himself and his comfort for them.

DO:

Am I going to be a hireling or a shepherd today?

John 9: God gets glory from Healing; not sickness!

1And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.2And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?3Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.4I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.5As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.6When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,7And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

35Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?36He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?37And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.38And he said, Lord, I believe. HEAR:

One of the worst mistakes we make in American Christianity is to read the bible in English. One of the other worst mistakes we make is to not speak, read, or write in proper English and therefore we do not use punctuation correctly. John 9:1-4 is among the most misquoted and misunderstood verses in the NT. Jesus did NOT say that the man was born blind so that God could be glorified. That is how people read it though. They use this verse among others to certify their anti-biblical position that God brings disaster on people for his sovereign and divine reasons. Usually to "teach them" something. I think they use "teach" because you CAN learn from, and sometimes in spite of, circumstances. I think they also use "teach" because they can't think of any other good reason God would do such a thing.

Punctuation is an English idea. Greek and Hebrew have no such punctuation. Therefore when the bible translators bring the text into English from Greek they must choose to punctuate as THEY see fit to help us read it. But most bibles are based on the King James translation which was punctuated by very religious people a long time ago. As God brings more and more light from His Word and we begin to understand verses in context with other verses we see where some of these errors occurred  There are no errors in the text - God's Word is perfect, but there are errors in our rendering and translation of the text.

Here is how it reads:

Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

Here is how it should read:

Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents.  

But that the works of God should be made manifest in him; I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day. The night cometh, when no man can work.

If you notice the changes here is what is actually being said. Jesus almost never gave direct answers to questions. He did not ever answer their question of "Why" this man was born blind.

He answered their question regarding sin. Neither him nor his parents sinned. End of statement/thought.

New statement/thought: So that God's works should be made real on the earth I must work them. And then he went on to work those works and heal the man.

Those two statements are separate. God's work is always to heal, bless, and deliver. NEVER will God purposefully cause, 'allow', or in any other way endorse sin, sickness, disease, poverty, fear, lack, etc. God can reach you in any circumstance of your life. The Holy Spirit is your teacher, not the devil. You will learn more totally healed and delivered and prosperous sitting in your office praying and reading the Word than you ever could distracted by sin, sickness, or poverty.

Notice one other verse here:

 If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

Religion is blind. ALL religion. I laugh when people ask me if I'm religious, since I carry my bible everywhere. I reply "Religious? No! I hate religion!" They really get surprised by that. SO I then I have to explain it, which opens up into great conversations.

DO:

I'm going to remember today that God loves me, Jesus loves me, Holy Spirit loves me, and Jesus is LORD over sin, sickness, and poverty. I'm going to remember today that I have been assigned to do the works of Jesus as his representative on this earth. We are the body of Christ and we must BE the body of Christ. That means that I am to do now, what Jesus did then and would do today.

If I'm upset at work over natural temporal stuff, I will be distracted into NOT doing the works of God. I must keep my focus on MY service to people, and not focus on what others fail to do, or do wrongly.

John 8: Ignore the rest, respond as God tells you!

HEAR:

Notice how Jesus responded to pressure. Nearly ignored it. Many have speculated on what he wrote on the ground. I cannot speculate on that right now. Because what's more important is what the text says, not what it doesn't say. One day Oral Roberts and Jerry Savelle had a meeting with a high ranking official in Africa. Jerry was speaking with the Official and listening to him also. Oral was doodling on a napkin. He'd wad it up and throw it aside and start doodling again. Finally after having gone through several he tapped Jerry and said "Hey look at this"... Jerry thought it was a little rude to interrupt the Official but out of respect he looked at it.

It read:

STREBOR LARO

Oral said, "You know what that it?" Jerry said "I have no idea what that is." Oral said: "It's 'Oral Roberts' spelled backwards." Jerry said, "Oral are we boring you?" Oral said, "YES! You are all thinking to small!" and with that he laid out a bigger vision and the Official and Jerry got excited and the government there gave them a bunch of land to do it on.

The point is, that Jesus didn't give in to pressure or situations. He didn't get disturbed by others lack of vision. He simply ignored it and gave the only response he HEARD the Father tell him to give.

I'm going to spend more time listening today, and less time talking. I'm going to try to ONLY say what the Father says.

Dreams and Vision

COME:

John 7
1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee; for He did not want to walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill Him. 2 Now the Jews' Feast of Tabernacles was at hand. 3 His brothers therefore said to Him, "Depart from here and go into Judea, that Your disciples also may see the works that You are doing. 4 For no one does anything in secret while he himself seeks to be known openly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world." 5 For even His brothers did not believe in Him. 6 Then Jesus said to them, "My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready. 7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it that its works are evil. 8 You go up to this feast. Just watched day one session two of the 2012 Southwest Believers Convention. 07/02/2012

Jesse Duplantis talked about redeeming the time. Prepare for God to use you. Prepare for your dreams. Prepare for God to use you in un-expected and maybe even trying circumstances. 

Jerry Savelle talked about 7 ways of knowing that a dream or vision is of God:

• If it captures your imagination. And it inspires and motivates you every day of your life. 
• If it seems impossible and you are unable to fulfill it on your own. 
• If it seems that it will never come to pass, but deep down on the inside of you, you are unwilling to give up on it. 
• If not everyone is as enthusiastic about it as you are. 
• If you experienced resistance, setbacks, difficulty, frustration, and wanting to quit.
• If it consumes your thinking and even seems to get bigger and bigger on the inside of you.
• If it seems to define and shape your life.

Write down your 3 highest expectations for this year.

HEAR:

It's now 2013. So my highest expectations are:

1. Get promoted at work. 
2. Grow my N2GS blog.
3. Complete Call To Excellence, The Book

OK, given point number 2 on the seven point list... I've set my expectations WAY too low... So let's try that again.

1. Successfully Self Employed
1. Making enough to fly anywhere and do anything we want to do.
2. Totally Debt Free
1. House, Student Loans, ALL Misc items we've missed or forgotten about. 
2. Total and Complete
3. Become totally clear about and deeply involved in what God has planned for me. 
1. Writing
2. Music
3. Ministry
4. Properties
5. ???

Write all this down, meditate on it, and allow the vision to become clearer in me. Because it's obvious from these lists that it's become quite mottled.

Goals; Vision; Future, Hope...

It's not OK

It's OK to be ignorant. It's not OK to be stay ignorant. You will not Succeed in life unless you are constantly examining what you know to see if you could know it better and learn things you don't know. The worst contributor to a persons lack of success is not knowing what they they don't know, and not caring to find out.

I deal with people every day who have no passion or drive of their own. I ask "What goals do you have for yourself?" or "What would you like to accomplish this year?" And they have no answer. It frustrates me to no end. How can you live with no passion or desire beyond your next meal and cold beer?

Then I ask myself? What goals do YOU have? It's at that point that I realize my hypocrisy. I have goals. I have things I want to accomplish. I have a list, well actually I have several disjointed lists in multiple places and I don't know where half of them are. I could cite all the things I want to do. But I'm not doing hardly any of them. I keep thinking that I'm going to use my days off to work on some of them, but the two days come and go and nothing happens.

Have Goals; Write Them Down

It's OK for your goals to change, to adapt, to conform, to morph, etc. But you should have some. It's OK to realize that certain goals were not God's plan or will for you.  It's OK to realize that other goals require the help of other people to bring to pass. It's OK to start with one vision and have the vision become clearly, more defined, and even change tone or color as it develops. Having Goals is important. That's what seeing this photo today on Pinterest did for me.

The other thing it makes me realize is that I should have all of those goals written in one place. It's OK for me to keep separate logs or diaries for each goal as I expound on them. But there should be ONE place I have them all in writing and at least defined as Bullet Points or Highlights. I enjoy blogs. You can create your own blog, keep it private so only you can see it. Use www.blogger.com. They can be accessed anywhere in the world, maybe you would prefer a journal, a scrap book, or a poster wall. Maybe for you it could just be a small index card that has been laminated for travel.

Whatever and Wherever you post it, there should be a single repository of all your goals, dreams, and vision for your future. That future would include your immediate future (ie This Year) and your moderate future (Next Five Years) and your long term future (I don't know when but someday I'd like to....). They should be out there in an easy reached place, reviewed and seen daily, and talked about often. If you write it down and forget about it for 6 months, it was not effective. You should always be looking to the future with expectation and know what you are expecting.

What do I mean by Goals?

What is a goal? What do I mean by that? A goal can be anything you want to do, be, or accomplish. Do you have a dream to own a restaurant, be the best sales person at your company, produce/record your own music album, be a better Father or Mother, Own your own businesses and/or properties, etc. Write all of those things down. This is the first step in accomplishing what you see. Pray about them. Writing them down isn't dedicating that you are doing them, it's putting them out there for review, prayer and pondering. You may find that some of those goals are not in line with what God has called you to do/be. You may find that He wants you to do all of them, but in a specific order. That order may not be the way you had planned. Putting them out there allows an open dialogue between you, God, and those involved to start to take shape and form.

In her article "Nine Things Successful People Do Differently" Heidi Halvorson points out that the number one  key to success is getting specific in your goals. She notes "I will loose 5 pounds" it more specific that "I will loose weight this year" So start to get specific for yourself. What do you want to see happen. What do you feel God has called you to do? Do you know what HOPE means in the Bible? It means to expect, trust, and rely on. If you have nothing you are expecting than your faith has nothing to work on or work with. You may have faith well enough, but it's useless. It's like having a power saw but no wood to measure and cut.

Hebrews 11:1
1NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses]. 

Those specific goals should also have specific time frames and deadlines. The more immediate the goal is, the more specific the assisnged tasks should be. Give yourself assingments. "I'm going to write one blog post per week, I'm going to do it every Monday unless I get to it earlier." Another assignment could be, "I'm going to spend 2 hours writing on my book". The more specific it is the better it will be for you. In fact, as soon as I publish this post, I'm going to take a break and say hi to my family, then come back in here and set up a vision book for myself. Maybe I'll even let you see it when It's done?

Conclusion

You must have goals. You must write those goals down. They must be easily retrieved  often reviewed, and they must be specific. But I will leave you with this additional thought. What impact will your goals have? Are your goals only for you and your family? What other people will be impacted by your goals. When you see your multi billion dollar business do you see buildings, structures, systems, and money... do the people working that business just feel like tools or pawns on your chessboard. Or are the people that you are providing jobs for the most important aspect? Christians do not use people to get things, we use things to love on people. So ponder the lives changed, and hearts healed, and finances restored of the people you are creating all of this for. Our motivation for accumulation, is distribution. Always remember that.
