The Tale Overdraft Prevention Pt 2

The Tale Overdraft Prevention Pt 2...

"Well let's see. We stopped fees for purchases, which was 75-80% of your battle. Now let's deal with those last pesky payments. Anytime you use your account number or card number to pay a bill you run risks. The company takes days to clear the payment. The company takes a payment they weren't supposed to, take a payment after you told them to stop, they take the wrong amount, on the wrong date, and basically just mess up your account. So we need to completely stop giving your card or account number to other companies. Even checks can be turned into electronic items and mis-processed or you simply forget to write it down. The more you control things, the less they control things, the better. We need to pay bills without using checks, account numbers or debit card numbers."

"How am I supposed to do that?"

"Now you have options. You pay in person with cash. You take out cash and buy money orders and mail them..."

"Wow, that would be a lot of extra work and cost to pay for envelopes and stamps and money orders."

"Yes... but not as much cost as paying for overdraft fees."

"That's true..."

"But there is another option. You can use your bill payment service through your bank. Almost every bank offers one now. Pull up your app again...." Joe unlocks his screen and goes back to the main menu. "See here. 'pay a bill'..."

"I think I noticed that before but I never paid attention to it."

"You can get prepaid debit cards from various places with way less hassle than your bank gives you. This bill payment service is one of the only reasons to have a bank account. Check it out. You can make a payment to any bill. It doesn't have to be automatic, you just type in the amount, select a date and hit send. The money comes out of your account today and it's done. No waiting days for it to clear. Best part? The other company never gets your account number. I even send my mom birthday checks through bill payment service at my bank. She gets a cashiers check in her mail box within a week. But most of my payments are large companies so they get the payment in 1-2 days electronically."

"That sounds cool. But what if I'm paying it the day it's due?"

"That's why you can't just have the tools you need a system to use them the right way. There's a few more things to discuss."

"You...

..... "Let's meet again and talk about how it's working for you. When would be a good time to meet?"

It Is Written - 21 Day Gateway Church Devotional Challenge Day 9

It Is Written - 21 Day Gateway Church Devotional Challenge Day 9

I've decided that if you miss days you just miss them. Keep your mind in the now and not the past. If you want to go back and re-read missed devotional days that's ok. But do NOT allow this feeling of being "behind" and needing to "catch up". You don't catch up in life. You either walk closer to or further from the plan of God. There is no catch up. That's an illusion. Just start where you are and walk.

COME:

Job 32:88 But it is the spirit in a man, the breath of the Almighty, that gives him understanding.

Job 12:13
13 "To God belong wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are his.

Psalm 119:34
34 Give me understanding, and I will keep your law and obey it with all my heart.

Luke 24:45
45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.

James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
Devotional Excerpt: ...Stress came into her life, she panicked when she couldn’t breathe, became fearful and didn’t understand what was happening. That happens to a lot of believers who don’t read the Word of God. - See more at: http://gatewaydevotions.com/it-is-written/day-9#sthash.pdv35txk.dpuf

HEAR:

When I'm feeling stressed I need to turn to God's Word and Prayer. Find that place of peace and then from that place of peace and rest I can hear Him more clearly. Kenneth Copeland talked about situation where he felt tremendous pressure, like when his aunt was dying and he wanted to rush to the hospital and panic like the rest of his family. But he chose instead to go into "LOW SLOW".

He purposefully slowed down, ate his eggs, got dressed slowly. Forcing his body to slow forced his mind to slow which allowed him to bring/keep his spirit into the top place in that situation. He was able to pray calmly on the way to the hospital. When he got there she'd died. But he calmly walked over to her and said in a quite restful tone of voice: "In the name of Jesus, you wake up now." and she did. "Oh hi Kenneth. When did you get here?"

That's the kinds of LOW SLOW we all need at all times, but especially during a crisis or pressure situation.

DO:

Instead of freaking out and rushing I'm going to go into low slow. DW

It Is Written - 21 Day Gateway Church Devotional Challenge Day 3

It Is Written - 21 Day Gateway Church Devotional Challenge Day 3

I'm way behind, but I'm doing these in order because they are building on one another. See the link above to view these devotionals yourself.

COME:

Psalm 105:41
41 He opened the rock, and water gushed out; like a river it flowed in the desert.

Psalm 1:1-3
1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

Joshua 1:8
8 Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Isaiah 49:9-10
9 to say to the captives, 'Come out,' and to those in darkness, 'Be free!' "They will feed beside the roads and find pasture on every barren hill. 10 They will neither hunger nor thirst, nor will the desert heat or the sun beat upon them. He who has compassion on them will guide them and lead them beside springs of water.
Isaiah 12:3
3 With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.
Jeremiah 17:7-8
7 "But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. 8 He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit."

HEAR:

When I'm feeling dry and unproductive and fruitless... it's a red flag I haven't been in the Word enough.

DO:

Keep up this daily routine, don't beat myself up about the days I miss. Keep moving forward, one days morning routine at a time.

It Is Written - 21 Day Gateway Church Devotional Challenge Day 2

It Is Written - 21 Day Gateway Church Devotional Challenge

Day 2

Ok, so it's Jan 7th and I'm on day two? Yes I'm behind. I'll be catching up tomorrow probably.

Come:

Matthew 4:4 (New International Version)
4 Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.' "

Joshua 1:8 (New International Version)
8 Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Job 23:12 (New International Version)
12 I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.

Isaiah 55:2 (New International Version)
2 Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.

Hear:

Daily time is paramount to success in life. My daily routine doesn't need to be three hours of prayer and bible study every morning. It can be ten minutes of quiet and prayer, ten minutes of bible and devotional, and ten minutes of journal. Routine, no matter how small, is better than binge eating God's word, followed by weeks and months of starving.

Do:

My new Routine, roughly ten minutes each of:

  • Quiet. Nothing by some rain sound for background noise. Not praying, not reading, just letting the dust settle in my mind.
  • Prayer. Actively praying for Flavia, the Kids, and more.
  • Journal. A short daily journal entry. Private that no one else reads. I'll ask myself three things.
    • What am I thankful for?
    • What am I feeling?
    • What's going on in life right now?
